Save Page Changes and Handle Unsaved Work in the Web Editor
Learn how saving works in the Admin Web Editor, understand save-status feedback, and avoid losing work when switching pages or language versions.
This guide explains how saving works inside the Admin Web Editor.
Use it when you want to:
- understand how page changes are saved in the builder
- know what save-status messages mean
- avoid losing edits when switching pages
- handle unsaved changes when switching page languages
Before You Start
Open the Web Editor first from System > Platform Customization.
Then open the page you want to edit.
Understand How Saving Works
In the Admin Web Editor, page changes are not silently saved in the background.
This means you should treat saving as an intentional step while editing.
Use the builder's save control when you want to keep the latest version of your work.
This is especially important before you:
- move to another page
- switch to another language version of the same page
- leave a long editing session
Watch The Save Status
While you work, OpenMirai can show save-state feedback for the current page.
Common states include:
- Unsaved
- Saving...
- Saved
Use this feedback to check whether the builder is still processing your latest changes or whether the page is already saved.
In practice:
- Unsaved means the page has edits that are newer than the last saved version
- Saving... means OpenMirai is currently storing the newest changes
- Saved means the latest save finished successfully
While a save is running, the save action can be temporarily unavailable until the current save finishes.
Save Before Switching To Another Page
If you try to open a different page while the current page still has unsaved edits, OpenMirai can stop the page switch and show an unsaved-changes dialog.
This helps prevent accidental data loss.
In the page-switch version of this warning, OpenMirai can show:
- a short unsaved-changes summary
- a warning panel explaining that discarded changes will be lost permanently
- Discard
- Save & Switch
If you save before switching, OpenMirai saves the current page first and then opens the next page.
If you discard, the page switch continues without keeping the latest unsaved edits.
Save Before Switching Page Languages
The same protection can appear when you switch between language versions of the current page.
If the page has unsaved edits, OpenMirai can warn you before changing the language view.
This language-switch warning can include actions such as:
- Cancel
- Discard
- Save & Switch
Use Save & Switch when you want to keep the work you just did before moving to the other language version.
Use Discard only when you are sure the current unsaved edits are no longer needed.
Use Cancel when you want to stay on the current language version and keep editing without switching yet.
What Unsaved Changes Means
An unsaved-changes warning means the builder has detected edits that are newer than the last saved version of the page.
This can happen after you:
- change text or block content
- update settings for a selected section
- rearrange page sections
- make other visual changes in the builder
If you continue without saving, those newest edits may be lost.
What To Expect While The Warning Is Processing
After you choose Save & Switch, OpenMirai can briefly show a loading state while it saves the page and completes the switch.
During that time, the warning actions can be temporarily unavailable.
In the page-switch warning, the main action can show Saving... while the switch is being processed.
Best Practices While Editing
To reduce the risk of losing work:
- save after a meaningful set of changes
- save before switching pages
- save before switching languages
- pay attention to Saving... and Saved feedback
This is especially helpful on longer editing sessions or when several page areas have changed.
What To Do Next
- save regularly while building or updating a page
- use the unsaved-changes dialog carefully when switching pages or languages
- return to preview mode after saving if you want to review the latest saved version
