Save a Block to Your Library in the Web Editor

Learn how to save a reusable block from the Admin Web Editor to your library, complete the save form correctly, and understand save success, validation, and error states.

This guide explains how to save a reusable block to your library inside the Admin Web Editor.

Use it when you want to:

  • keep a useful block or block group for reuse later
  • give the saved block a clear name and category
  • understand why the save form may show validation errors
  • know what happens after a block is saved successfully

Before You Start

Open the Web Editor first from System > Platform Customization.

Then open the Outline panel, select the correct block, and open its ... menu.

Use Save to library to open the save window.

What The Save Window Is For

The save window lets you store the selected block or block group as a reusable library item.

This is helpful when you want to use the same section again on another page without rebuilding it from scratch.

Understand The Save Form

The save form includes:

  • a Name field
  • a Description field
  • a Category dropdown
  • Cancel
  • Save to Library

Use this form to describe the block clearly so it will be easy to find and reuse later.

Enter A Clear Name

The Name field is required.

Use it to give the reusable block a short, descriptive name that your team will understand later.

OpenMirai limits the name length, so shorter, clearer names work best.

Add A Description

Use the Description field when you want to explain what the reusable block is for.

This can be helpful when the block is meant for a specific page type, campaign, layout pattern, or team use case.

If the description is too long, OpenMirai can show a validation error.

Choose A Category

The Category field helps organize the saved block in your library.

Available categories can include:

  • Layout
  • Content
  • Navigation
  • Forms
  • Media
  • UI Elements
  • Custom
  • Uncategorized

Choose the category that best matches how you expect to use the block later.

Save The Block

After you complete the form, select Save to Library.

OpenMirai then saves the selected block to your library for future use.

While the save is running, the action changes to Saving... and the form controls become temporarily unavailable.

What Happens If The Form Is Invalid

If required information is missing or one of the fields does not meet the form rules, OpenMirai can show validation errors in the form.

Examples include:

  • a missing name
  • a missing category
  • text that is too long for the allowed field limit

Use the field messages to correct the problem, then try saving again.

What Happens After A Successful Save

When the save succeeds, OpenMirai shows a success message in the window.

After a short moment, the window closes automatically.

This tells you the block is now stored in your library and ready to be reused later.

What Happens If Saving Fails

If the save cannot be completed, OpenMirai shows an error message inside the window.

This can happen if there is a temporary problem while saving the library item.

When that happens, review the form, then try saving again.

When To Use Cancel

Use Cancel when you want to close the save window without creating a library item.

If you cancel, the current block stays on the page but is not added to the library.

Best Practices For Reusable Blocks

To make your library easier to use over time:

  • choose names that clearly describe the block
  • add a short description for blocks that are not obvious
  • keep similar blocks in consistent categories
  • save blocks that you expect to reuse, not one-off experiments

This makes your library much easier to browse later.

What To Do Next

  • return to the page after the save window closes
  • open your library later when you want to reuse the saved block
  • rename blocks clearly before saving them if the current structure names are unclear

If you need help opening the block actions menu first, use the related Website Builder and Pages guide for the Outline menu.
