Use Left-Side Tools In The Web Editor
Learn how to use the left-side tools in the Web Editor, switch tools from the left icon rail, understand when to open AI Assistant or Outline, recognize active-tool states, and use optional extra tools when they appear.
This guide explains the left-side tools inside the Admin Web Editor.
Use it when you want to:
- switch tools from the left icon rail
- switch between the main tools in the builder quickly
- decide whether to use AI Assistant or Outline
- understand what the left-side icons are for
- know what to expect when extra tool icons appear
Before You Start
Open the Web Editor from System > Platform Customization.
Then open any page in the builder workspace.
Understand The Left-Side Tool Area
The left side of the builder is used for quick tool switching.
This area usually includes:
- a narrow icon rail
- a larger panel area that opens when you choose a tool
Use this part of the workspace when you want to change how you work on the page without leaving the editor.
Use The Left Tool Rail
The narrow icon rail is the fastest way to open the main workspace tools.
In most setups, this rail includes:
- an AI Assistant icon
- an Outline icon
- optional extra tool icons added for your workspace
Select an icon once to open that tool in the left panel.
If you select the same icon again, OpenMirai can close that tool panel and return the left side to a collapsed state.
If you are not sure what an icon does, move your pointer over it first. OpenMirai shows a tooltip with the tool name so you can confirm it before opening it.
Use The AI Assistant Tool
Select AI Assistant when you want help making changes in normal language.
This is useful for tasks such as:
- rewriting text more quickly
- drafting first-pass content
- making broad content updates faster than manual editing
The AI Assistant is often the fastest option when you already know the result you want but do not want to edit each block by hand.
After AI helps you update content, review the result in the canvas before saving.
Use The Outline Tool
Select Outline when you want to work with the page structure directly.
This is useful when you need to:
- find the correct block in a large page
- select nested sections more accurately
- move blocks into a different order
- rename blocks for easier organization
- insert a block in a specific position
Outline is often the best first step when selecting the correct area in the canvas feels difficult.
Use Optional Extra Tools
Some workspaces can show additional tool icons on the left side.
These extra icons open workspace tools that were added for your organization or team setup.
If you are not sure what one of these tools does, hover over the icon first to read its tooltip before opening it.
Understand Tool States
When you open a tool, its icon becomes the active tool for the current task.
OpenMirai can show this with a highlighted state on the selected icon.
You may also see:
- a tooltip when you hover over an icon
- the left content panel updating to match the tool you selected
This helps you confirm which tool is currently open.
If you switch from one tool to another, the active highlight moves to the newly selected icon and the panel content changes at the same time.
What Happens If The Left Sidebar Is Hidden
In some builder states, the left sidebar can be hidden from workspace controls.
When that happens:
- the tool icons are not shown
- the left tool panel is not visible until the sidebar is shown again
If you cannot find AI Assistant or Outline, check whether the left sidebar is currently collapsed.
When To Use Each Left-Side Tool
Use AI Assistant when:
- you want speed
- you are rewriting or drafting content
- you want help with bulk content changes
Use Outline when:
- the page has many sections
- block selection in the canvas is hard
- you need more precise structure control
Use optional extra tools only when:
- your workspace shows them
- you know they are part of your team’s process
What To Do Next
- open Outline first if you need to find the exact block
- switch to right-side settings after selecting the correct block
- open AI Assistant when you want faster content changes
- preview the page after larger updates to confirm the final result
